NISHIDA TADASHIGE

Nishida Tadashige, born in 1942 in Kagoshima, Japan, began his artistic career as a painter. After earning awards for his early work, he made a significant shift to woodblock printing in 1985. His debut exhibition in New York introduced him to a broader audience, setting the stage for international recognition. Today, his prints are part of respected collections, including the New Tokyo International Airport Authority and Tokyo Prefectural Government Hall.

Nishida quickly gained a reputation as a master of contemporary Japanese woodblock art. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, major corporations and banks featured his work in annual calendars. In 1992, he joined the prestigious CWAJ Print Show and has exhibited there ten times. Throughout Japan, galleries and high-end department stores continue to showcase his distinctive prints. Each piece is hand-printed, often using rich oil-based pigments and shimmering mica backgrounds to elevate the visual impact.

Although best known for his playful cat prints, Nishida also explores landscapes, trees, and nature-inspired scenes. His style blends traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary eye. Many of his works feature bold designs and glossy finishes that appeal to both new and seasoned collectors.
